千金を買う市あれど、一文字を買う店なし 1000kin wo kau ichi aredo, 1monji wo kau mise nashi.

  • 解釈:市場では何でも買えるが、文字を買うことはできない。字は自分で学ぶしかないという教え。
  • Literal:Although there is a market which buys 1000 "kin" (unit of money), there is no store which buys one character.
  • Interpretation:Because, it is since the character (learning) must be studied by itself. Even if it is well-heeled, the character cannot be bought in the shop. Study the character.
